The last blog post I wrote was a scary one. It was an open, raw, and honest view of what was going on in my life. In years past I would never have written it.
In the past I would not have written that post because it admitted two things that seem taboo in business. I admitted to being laid off and I openly praised Jesus. The funny thing is that I got more positive emails/comments and support from that post than anything else I have written this year (or possibly ever).
I asked myself why is that. I think it is because people can see authenticity and they not only appreciate it, but people also want authenticity. Especially in today’s world of AI bots and AI fakeness.
So why did I write that post? I was just being honest about important things that were happening in my life. And if you don’t like that or don’t understand then you don’t have to respond. I guess I really didn’t care what others thought (I am not trying to sound like a jerk), but hey I was just recounting what is happening in my life.
I guess my learning is that when we are being honest we can have the courage that comes with that honesty.
“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
So what now? I’ll just keep calling it as it is. I will keep praising God. I will be here for anyone who needs anything. I will keep writing honestly and authentically.
How are you being courageous as a leader?
